John C. Nelson was a dedicated public servant, community leader, and a foundational figure in the history of the Pasco County Sheriff's Lodge 29. Born on November 4, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, John’s life was marked by service, commitment, and a deep sense of duty to those around him.

John spent his professional life in law enforcement, proudly serving as a Deputy Sheriff in Pasco County, Florida. His career was distinguished not only by his dedication to protecting the community but also by the respect he earned from colleagues and citizens alike. After retiring, John remained an active figure in supporting the law enforcement community.

One of John’s most enduring legacies is his role in the creation of the Pasco County Sheriff's Lodge 29. As a Charter Member and the Charter President, John was instrumental in the founding and early success of the lodge. His leadership, vision, and commitment laid the foundation for what would become a lasting institution serving deputies, officers, and their families throughout the region. His efforts helped ensure the lodge would be a source of support, camaraderie, and advocacy for years to come.​

When John passed away on January 4, 2017, at the age of 69, the law enforcement community lost a steadfast friend and leader. In recognition of his invaluable contributions and unwavering service, the lodge proudly bears his name. The John Nelson Memorial Pasco Lodge 29 stands as a tribute to his legacy, a place built on the values he lived by—duty, honor, and community.
